“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:3–5 ESV)

The one who says that suffering should be despised and is in no-way beneficial to us (in whatever form it is providentially mediated), that one denies our need for sanctification and is inherently self-righteous. He has come to a place where he deludes himself into the thought that he ‘has made it’ and is not lacking in anything.
